Gladheart Sonata is our first foal from the Whippoorwill Newmoon X Rogue’s Midnight Melody cross and shows the athletic ability of both her sire and dam. Her sire, Whippoorwill Newmoon was a reining champion at major West Coast Regionals and open competitions as well as being the 1994 and 1996 Morgan Grand National Reining champion. In addition to being an exceptional athlete in his own right, Newmoon is also a 3/4 brother to Whippoorwill Ebony (aka ‘Black Tie’) who ranked 21st USDF Intermediare II in 1999. Rogue’s Midnight Melody is from the breeding program of Jean Sauer (Rogue Hill Morgans) and is very closely related to Rogue’s Hill Galaxy who was an USDF All-Breeds winner at Prix St. George.
In addition to an outstanding pedigree, Sonata shows strength and power at all three gaits, as well as remarkable cattiness--she has a well-deserved reputation for “always knowing where her feet are”. Sonata is one of the most playful horses we have ever been around, and she loves to interact with people. Sonata has been shown, regularly ridden out on the trail, and participated in numerous dressage clinics. Her playfulness, athletic ability and sensible mind make her one of the farm favorites.
Sonata is also a proven broodmare, as demonstrated in the quality of her first foals by Whippoorwill Aristocrat (Gladheart Santiam) and Kell’s in Kirby’s Honor (Gladheart Camas). Her 2010 colt by Whippoorwill Aristocrat, Gladheart Charbonneau, is equally as impressive and looking to follow in his father's footsteps; Whippoorwill Aristocrat was shown successfully through Third Level in open dressage competition and has continued to prove himself an outstanding sporthorse sire.
